FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
MOBILECIRC PATCHES FOR iOS SCANNING WITH THE CAMERA:
With the recent patches to MobileCirc to get iOS devices to play nice with the app, another issue arose: on some devices, a “black screen” appears when trying to use the camera as a scanner (described as a blank screen with only the scan box visible in the lower corner). The following was offered by someone at Sirsi as a “temporary fix” while they work on a permanent solution:
“I've found that I can get out of the black camera screen if I scan something in. I've also found that if I scan something in that doesn't fit the expected criteria (scanning a user barcode to get it out of the scanning an Item barcode screen). This locks it up for about a minute but then it comes back. If you scan something it likes then it will go back to the regular screen.”
We will let you know once they fix the problem.
TEST SERVER DOWNTIME:
The Test server will be offline for system software maintenance, starting at 8:00 AM on 3/11/2015 through 3/15/2015, to install device drivers for the new LTO5 tape drive.
CCS SHORT STAFFED:
In addition to Frank Correa still being out of the office, Bob Barth will be taking vacation time starting on 2/20/2015 through 3/1/2015. Please be conscientious about using Wonderdesk to submit any help tickets with which you need assistance. If you need immediate assistance, please call the CCS Computer Room directly.
AUTHORITIES NEWS:
One giant file from Marcive is being loaded into our system this week. It contains 15,209 updated authority records. These are the last of the authority records that the Library of Congress updated so that they will be ready for the new cataloging rules of RDA.

MATERIAL TYPE IN WORKFLOWS HIT LISTS:
This week, we configured an additional column for the WorkFlows hit list that displays "material type" information. At first, it is only displaying data for newer audio & video records (especially Blu-ray, DVD, audio CD, Playaway audio, & Playaway View), but that will expand to other formats in the near future, and eventually to older records, too. Because this information appears in its own column, it should be easier to use than our custom qualifiers to the General Material Designation subfield (e.g. "[videorecording (DVD)]"), which is now obsolete for newer records.
It is not possible to sort results by the new column in WorkFlows, but it is possible to either add "and DVD" or "and (DVD or Blu-ray)" or the like to your search to limit just to the specific format(s) you're interested in (and then repeat for any other formats you want to see), or use File > Print Setup to configure WorkFlows to "dump" screens to MS Word, then use File > Print Screen to send the hit list to MS Word, then with in MS Word use (Table Tools) Layout > Data > Sort to sort the results.
