CCS News

AUGUST 19, 2011

FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:

BiblioCommons and the CatKey – when reporting a problem with a bibliographic record in BiblioCommons, we need the number that you see in the URL at the top of the screen. The first eight digits of this number correspond to the unique internal record control number in our cataloging database which is known as the CatKey. It is not the OCLC number nor is it the Record Control Number. It is, however, searchable in Workflows.

In this example we have bolded the numeric portion for emphasis.

http://glenview.bibliocommons.com/item/show/1168278035_sebastians_roller_skates .

The first eight digits “1168278” are the CatKey. The last three digits “035” were assigned to us by BiblioCommons and indicate a CCS library. If you should want to search the CatKey in the General Index in Workflows, you would use: ^C1168278.

If you just copy and paste the URL with the needed key when you report a problem, it will assist us when we turn the problem over to BiblioCommons. If the problem is with a book jacket cover image or review – the ISBN is also most helpful.

AUTHORITIES UPDATE:
Earlier this month, CCS sent a group of bibliographic records to Marcive for authorities processing – 6277 bibliographic records were sent, and Marcive returned 1929 updated ones, as well as 3060 new authority records. All of these records have been re-loaded.
