CHRIS’ CORNER:

Achiever, Learner, Responsibility, Focus, Relator. According to “Strengthsfinder 2.0”, these are my strengths. A good friend of mine who specializes in HR consulting turned me onto this Tom Rath work several years ago.  I not only found it a great teambuilding tool, but it provided an excellent reminder to cultivate your natural talents.

What do you feel are the strengths at CCS? How can we build upon them? Or if you happen to be a “Strengthsfinder 2.0” fan, let’s chat about our individual talents. I’d love to hear your thoughts! cholly@ccs.nsls.lib.il.us

FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
SMS/EMAIL REGISTRATION UPDATE:
We have had a Sure Sailing consulting call with SirsiDynix this week to discuss the finer details needed to integrate SMS/Email registration seamlessly into Enterprise while the patron is in their My Account section of Enterprise.  We have discussed two scenarios that would work, one better than the other, that SirsiDynix is looking into and investigating its feasibility. We will have another Sure Sailing call to see how we proceed and move forward with its implementation. We have no time frame yet but should soon and will share it when we do.

CHANGES FOR VIDEOGAMES:
Existing video game records in our database have been enhanced so that they display "Video game" in the Material Type column in WorkFlows, and the game console type in the Edition column.  The console type is also recorded in a standardized way in a separate MARC field, so that it can be easily and reliably searched in WorkFlows and can be configured as a facet in Enterprise, or just searched in a general keyword search.

WELCOME BACK FRANK CORREA!

We are delighted to announce that after nearly six months of medical absence, Frank Correa is returning to work later today. No doubt he’ll have extensive excavation of his desk and email to do, but he’s been very ready to get back to work for awhile now, so please don’t hesitate to communicate your needs and questions; think of them as opportunities to indulge his pent-up work ethic. We’re very pleased that Frank is well enough to resume his duties, and that the IT staff is back to full complement.

Frank adds: As the great Michael Jordan #23 once said, “I’m Back!”. I can’t tell you how I have missed everyone at CCS, and also the members of our libraries, who always keep me busy. It was a rough start at first, but I have improved and am now hoping that little by little,  I am returned to 100% again. Thank you all for your well wishes and prayers that I received throughout my absence, they were appreciated.

Hoping to see you all again soon, when I visit and see you at meetings.

Thanks, glad to be back…
