CHRIS’S CORNER:
I’m looking forward to working with you!
Since we’re in the season of nominations and a changing of the guard in the various committees, working groups, and task forces, I wanted to help invigorate those considering volunteering their time for CCS. I’ve enjoyed chatting with you about these groups. They are great way to network, refine leadership skills, help the collective whole, and build resumes. Having worked with a number of different library consortia who operate in a variety of ways, I’m impressed by the level of member library engagement through these groups.
I realize I have the benefit of being new and fresh, but hopefully my own energy will be contagious enough to encourage the veterans to reapply and to inspire the other newbies to step up. Are there new continuing education initiatives worth exploring? Do we need to consider new and different ways of member engagement? I’m open to suggestions of what is working well and what might be worth a change. I look forward to hearing from you and working more closely with the various groups in the coming year. cholly@ccs.nsls.lib.il.us
FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
Just a reminder, the Computer Room will run its regular scheduled reports through the holiday. There will be no staff in the office on Monday, but the weekend will be staffed as usual. Wishing you a good safe Memorial Day.
USER CATEGORY 3:
Formerly, User Category 3 was used by a few libraries to indicate which Illinois library system the library of a patron from outside of CCS was part of, for statistical purposes (e.g. to get reciprocal borrower statistics for all of NSLS in one row, and separate from the numbers for DLS & MLS). Since those library systems are no more, any records that had those values have been changed to the relevant merged library system, so the only valid values now are: blank (most libraries use this), CCS (used only for special ILL user records for each CCS library), CPLS, DESK (used only by HPK), IHLS, and RAILS.

AUTHORITIES NEWS:
Two files from Marcive were loaded into our system this week. One contained 2997 updated authority records and the other contained 309 new authority records that were needed in our database, but were not available before this time.
