CCS News

NOVEMBER 18, 2011

FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:

BiblioCommons – As of this writing we are anticipating a new build of BiblioCommons which will occur on Friday morning November 17. We continue to report anomalies in searching where the titles that you own may not come up in a search scoped to your library – but come up in a search of All Libraries. For those of you experiencing this please think analytically about the item that you report. Was it recently edited? Did it recently circulate, etc? All observations are good ones at this point and we might see a pattern emerge. (P.S. We heard from BiblioCommons Nov. 17 that they have re-indexed the database and are hoping this will clear up the problem, so that makes it even more important to let us know if the issue is ongoing.)

Testing Tuesdays – the network tests will continue from 6:30-8 AM on Tuesday mornings until we have a clear measure of network performance in regard to our ability to download the SirsiDynix Symphony Client efficiently.

MEMBERSHIP EVALUATION SURVEY:

As per the e-mail we sent out November 14, we hope each department of your library will complete the online survey; the link is in that e-mail. December 9 is our requested deadline; thanks! We have reduced the number of mandatory questions to make response easier for those who don’t have a lot of dealings with CCS.

NEXT WEEK:
There will be no CCS News next week due to the holiday. We wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving!

FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:

Closed Dates 2012 – It is that time of year again. All circulation heads have been notified to send us the list of closed dates for 2012.

Network testing – we will be conducting further tests. For your scheduling – we will plan on doing these tests for the next few Tuesday mornings. The next test will be Tuesday Nov 8 from 6:30-8am. Please schedule your early staff accordingly. It is important that we figure out how to load clients efficiently .

BiblioCommons – BiblioCommons introduced a bug to their system on October 26 that had an adverse affect on ePay payments. We have been testing a fix with BiblioCommons since this was discovered. We have tested a successful fix (right before writing this) and the situation should be repaired as of Nov 4.

Testing for SMS (text messages)– The computer room has been participating in discussions regarding SMS (texting) at SirsiDynix. A version of this has been made available on the SirsiDynix machines for us (and other participants) to test. We will let you know how it goes as we progress with this test.

AUTHORITIES NEWS:

This week, CCS loaded 2 files that were obtained from Marcive. One file contained 1540 updated authority records and the other file contained 390 authority records that were needed, but not available until now.
