FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
Item Search and Display - Have you noticed that the first time you use the Item Search and Display wizard each day after bringing up Workflows, it is terribly S..L..O..W? This is not a bug; it is because it takes time for Java to “rebuild” when it is re-initialized after Workflows is brought up. This is not uncommon in many computer applications. So, if this is an annoyance to you, do Item Search and Display on any item when you bring up Workflows initially. Make it part of the “bringing up Workflows” routine to keep the wizard running faster throughout the day.

SIRSI ENHANCEMENT POSTPONED:

We were very disappointed to hear from Sirsidynix CEO for Technology Talin Bingham that Sirsi has dropped our long- and avidly-requested Hold Map enhancement to allow libraries to limit some iBistro-placed holds to local materials only from Release 3.3.1 – where it was moved from Release 3.3. Rather than a new implementation timetable, we were given an assertion that for the last two years, Sirsi has gotten every major release out on time. Needless to say, “on time” isn’t the phrase we associate most closely when a critical and promised enhancement goes from a specific release slot to a later one and then into the ozone. We have expressed our unhappiness. Stay tuned...
