FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
Local Notice Printing – this continues apace with six libraries in the lineup to start printing their own notices beginning in June.
Computer Room Staff Visits – In order to get libraries moving quickly towards local notice printing or receipt printing on Java, our computer room staff have been coming out to work with a number of libraries. That has been a great experience for us to see you all in action at your library. We look forward to getting to all libraries in the coming months. Please let us know if you need one of us to come out and we will work it into the schedule.
Memorial Day Weekend – we are at work during our normal hours Friday, Saturday and Sunday but will be taking a holiday on Monday for Memorial Day. All jobs will run on schedule but printed notices will be one day late.
Monthly Reports – beginning June 1 we will stop printing monthly reports. You can print these at your library now.
AUTHORITIES UPDATE:
CCS sent 6376 bibliographic records to Marcive on Wednesday, May 21st for Overnight Authorities Processing. The records have been processed and were reloaded into our system, so full cataloging may resume. Of the 6376 bibliographic records, Marcive returned 1813 updated bibliographic records. Marcive also sent us 3623 new authority records. CCS will be sending groups of records for processing each month, so that our database will be kept up to date as much as possible.
DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that Joel Hahn has developed an excellent guide to using the keyboard shortcuts currently available in the Java client? Joel created this document as a PowerPoint presentation for the April 2008 Sirsi Users Group meeting in Detroit, but I’m posting it on the CCS web page because it clearly explains how to set up and use shortcuts and Function keys in Java WorkFlows. His presentation covers desktop setup and navigation issues, keyboard shortcuts, Function keys, keyboard shortcut sequences, and creating your own shortcuts. There are also sections that address toolbar issues such as creating your own toolbar, manually modifying your toolbar, and hiding all toolbars except your own. Called “Joel Hahn’s Guide to Java Keyboard Shortcuts”, it’s found on the Sirsi Resource link, under the documented Procedures column. – Ken Victorson
