FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
Welcome – we wish to welcome Jim O’Day to our computer room staff. Jim will be training for the next several weeks with current staff on day and night shifts. He will take over the Sunday night operator shift late in June. Jim comes to us from Walgreen’s where he was part of the Computer Operations support staff for ten years. No stranger to libraries, Jim once worked as a page at Deerfield Public Library and is a frequent patron at a neighboring Symphony library. We are happy to have Jim join us at CCS.
Vacations – we like to be sure that you are aware of upcoming vacations in case you are wondering the whereabouts of your favorite computer room staffer. Frank has been away and will be off June 14-20. Linda will be off June 8-15. Bob will be off June 20-27. Linda will be at ALA at the end of the month.
Domain – recent domain changes completed due to the situation at NSLS have now taken effect and will be discussed at the next Maintenance Coordinators meeting (June 15). We want to be sure that libraries discontinue use of the domain ccs.nslsilus.org and use ccs.nsls.lib.il.us only for emails to us at CCS. Web links should also use the domain ccs.nsls.lib.il.us instead of nslsilus.org. All other parts of the link should stay the same. If you have questions on links please notify the computer room. We hope to switch to the ccslib domain completely later this year – so please stay tuned.
ONE SUBJECT HEADING CHANGE WORTHY OF NOTE:
There was only one subject heading change last week that was worthy of note. The former heading was “Hygiene, Sexual” and the new updated heading is “Sexual health”. All affected bibs. have been changed in our database.

THANKS to everyone for adjusting to the holds changes. Please don’t be shy about asking questions, or testing how things behave now. Please keep in mind that nobody is trying to quash all resource sharing or van traffic, it’s just an effort to reduce it, hopefully without a major negative impact on service. Systemwide holds when necessary, including book club holds, are still okay!
CCS MEETING NEXT WEEK:
