FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:

Closed Dates:
Jim O’Day has entered our libraries’ closed dates for 2014, with all the information that was sent. If you did not send in your closed dates, please make sure you contact Jim ASAP so he can update your calendar in time for due dates when you are closed.

CCSLIB.ORG website password change:

We will be changing the password to the restricted part of the CCS web site on Tuesday morning. Frank has received 19 of the libraries’ designated contacts who will receive the login/password. This will be a process that will happen every 3 months. Email was sent a couple of weeks ago, and a reminder was sent yesterday.  If you have not responded to Frank yet, please do so ASAP.

We Welcome Jonathan Padilla:
We are happy to have Jonathan Padilla on board as the new IT Systems Manager. He started this Monday. He is looking forward to working with all the CCS members and visiting libraries, and has already expressed a lot of good ideas for our infrastructure.

GOOD WISHES TO ROGER ANDERSON:
After over twenty-five years creating and defining the position of CCS Database Manager, Roger Anderson will retire at the end of the year.  We wish him the greatest retirement ever; he’s earned it.  Meanwhile, we will be recruiting for a replacement.  Pending our running an ad, if you are interested, please email rshurman@ccs.nsls.lib.il.us for more information.

NO CCS NEWS NEXT WEEK:

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, there will be no issue of this bulletin next week.

FIFTY YEARS AGO:
It’s hard to believe that fifty years have passed since the tragic Presidential assassination that changed so many basic assumptions about our country as well as the course of history.  A brief pause to mourn and reflect seems fitting, as does an affirmation of the idealism which we can never allow to be eradicated.

FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:

Construction Delayed:
The start of our construction has hit a small delay. Since the plans for the raised floor in the computer room have changed, a new set of drawings has to be submitted to the village. Our demolition of the computer room staff area looks like it might not start for a week or two. Meanwhile, the computer staff is doing fine, in tight quarters.  We will keep everyone posted about the project schedule and status.

New IT Systems Manager
:
Linda Zaleski’s replacement Jonathan Padilla will make his debut at CCS on Monday November 18. Staff has started to prepare for his arrival, and we hope he does not mind the dust and noise when construction is full gear.  He will have the same telephone number and extension as Linda did (847-666-3213 direct dial, or 847-342-5300 x213), and will send out other contact information next week.

Password Change Reminder:
The CCSLIB.org website will be changing logins and passwords to the website, in order to consolidate to a single password with acceptable security. A short memo was sent out to the Maintenance Coordinators and Administrators. Please follow up to make sure that a contact for your library has been assigned and contact Frank Correa with any questions or concerns..

Test Server Offline Nov. 20:

The test server will be offline on Wednesday 11/20 for maintenance. The memory error patch is scheduled to be installed by Sirsi on that day.

Test Server Offline As Of Nov. 24:
The test server will be offline beginning 11/24 for several weeks, during the construction.  The electrician needs to move the Test Server’s power receptacle.  This circuit is one to be turned off on Sunday 11/24. We don’t have a timetable yet on when the new power receptacle will be ready.

CCS News November 8, 2013

FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
Construction Begins: CCS will be doing some renovations throughout the office, starting Tuesday, November 12.  The first phase will be the Computer Room staff area, followed by the regular staff area.  Since the Computer Room staff is in temporary offices, it is important to use the Help Desk for any issues that need attention.  This will ensure that one or more of the staff members will be able to follow-up on any issue.

Password Change: The CCSLIB.org website will be changing login and passwords to the website.  A short memo was sent out to the Maintenance Coordinators and Administrators.  Please follow-up to make sure that a contact for your library has been assigned.

BiblioCommons: BiblioCommons will be performing an emergency upgrade on our perimeter firewalls on Saturday, November 9, between 4:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. Eastern time.  During this time, access to all BiblioCommons services will be interrupted.  We apologize for the inconvenience and the short notice.

Flipping Older Holds: The process to flip GROUP holds placed before April 16, 2013 from GROUP to SYSTEM went as planned this week.  We flipped half of these older holds.  We plan to flip the other half on Wednesday, November 13.
