FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
Pick List - You have noticed the pick list is running long. This problem began on August 31 and although we removed a hold that appeared to be causing some slowdowns – our problem persists. As of this writing we are working on the problem with Sirsi.
Bandwidth Workshop – September 19 – Don’t Miss Out!!!! If your library is not yet represented you should really designate someone to attend. So far, 13 of our libraries are represented, but we are still missing 10 of you. The program promises to be very worthwhile.
Reporting problems – This is a reminder to use the Wonderdesk to report problems. If it is more in the nature of a query or comment and you would rather email to CRSTAFF@ccs.nsls.lib.il.us you can be assured that some one at CCS-HQ will see the email on the day it is sent. Although each of us always likes to hear from you - we regret that messages sent to our private boxes might arrive on our scheduled day off and then we can’t respond until we return.
Notice format – the patron barcode on the notice was moved on Wednesday night. It will not longer show in the window envelope.
MARCIVE AUTHORITY PROCESSING:
On Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, CCS sent approx. 8100 bibliographic records to Marcive for Overnight Authorities Processing. The records have been processed and were reloaded into our system, so full cataloging may resume. Of the 8100 bibliographic records, Marcive returned 2346 changed bibliographic records (it’s easier for us just to reload the changed records – less to load, so less of a strain on our system). Marcive also sent us 3306 new authority records. CCS will be sending groups of records for processing each month, so that our database will be kept up to date.

DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know it’s possible to print a list of a patron’s checkouts, holds, or bills in the Java client, without having all three types of information appear on the printout? In Java, if you want to limit the printed data to just checkouts, just holds, or just bills, you can easily do so by using the Print Screen option found under the File heading on the Menu Bar. The output can be produced in 8.5” by 11” format on a standard laser printer by using the Print Setup option (also on the File menu) to switch from a default receipt printer to the laser, if necessary. The 8.5” by 11” format is much easier to read and therefore more useful to the patron.
For example, to print a list of all items a patron currently has checked out, but exclude any holds or bills information, display the patron’s record and click on the Checkouts tab. While the checkout information is on the screen, go to the Menu Bar at the top of the window and select Print Screen from the associated dropdown list. A screen resembling an MS Word document labeled Checkout appears and it will display only basic patron information (name, address, barcode, etc.), plus a list of all items currently checked out by that person. At this point, go to the File menu and click on Print Screen and the Word-like page will print exactly as it displays on the screen. The Print Screen option works the same way for the Bills and Holds tabs, as well.
Similarly, to print a long list of the items checked out in a single session at the circulation desk in 8.5” by 11” format, use the Print Screen option to capture only those items displayed during the currently open checkout session. To print a lengthy list of all items checked-in during a single session (say after checking in everything from the drop box), the Print Screen option will print out a complete list of these items as well. In the same manner, you can capture an individual bill payment transaction while it’s on-screen. You can also use the Print Screen option to print a list of renewals processed during an open renewal session, or to print the results of a Check Item Status transaction.
On the other hand, if you DO want to print the entire patron record, including all checkouts, holds, and bills (as well as Demographics and Extended Information WITH Notes & Comments), just click on the Print wizard found on the Common Tasks toolbar. Ken Victorson
