CCS News

MARCH 14, 2008

FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
In-house patrons – when spring cleaning your patron files DO NOT delete the in-house patrons. If the patron name is the same as your policy name (for example PARK_RIDGE) it is one example of an in-house patron. Without these special patron records, your notices will not have a return address.

Receipt printers - A survey of what printers are in use in the consortium have been sent out to the maintenance coordinators and to the circulation heads.

Response time on iBistro – the problems of the last few weeks are being addressed aggressively by CCS and Park Ridge, with help from Akibia. We do not believe the overload has a malicious origin, and Park Ridge has been terrific about working with us. There appear to be excessive calls for images. Diagnostics continue and there has been some reconfiguration; this weekend will be a good test, hopefully not of our patience!

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that it’s possible to define a single customized toolbar or single group of common wizard Properties on a Java workstation, and copy & paste them from one machine to another? Copying and pasting between PCs will make it much easier to set up a group of Java workstations that will be used for the same basic operations. The process is started by creating a customized toolbar or set of common Properties definitions, or both, on the originating workstation. Once these have been created, they’re automatically stored in a directory file on the originating machine (in C:\Documents and Settings\\Sirsi\Workflows\). From there, they can be copied & pasted to a networked drive, flash memory stick, or floppy disk. Once they’re on the chosen storage device, they can easily be transferred into the same directory location on the destination workstations.

I’ve created a document detailing the procedures for doing this and posted it to the CCS web page. It’s called, “Copying Toolbars & Properties from PC to PC” and can be found in the Sirsi Resource Page link, under the Documented Procedures heading.

Also: There are still plenty of seats available for the Java PAS training sessions to be held at the Ela Library on the afternoons of April 1st and 3rd. These may be the last formal Java PAS training opportunities for awhile, so if you or any of your staff would like to attend one of these classes, please contact me and provide the name and email address of the person to be registered. There are no limits on the number of people from each library that may attend a class (other than the capacity of the training space), so feel free to have more than one of your staff car pool to a session. – Ken Victorson
