CCS News

MAY 30, 2008

FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
Local notice printing - A number of libraries are ready to take over printing of their own notices next week (beginning June 2). Circulation Heads should have received an email from Linda with the details via the CIRC list. We are on schedule and will be working with the remaining libraries over the summer!

iBistro – Monday morning found some unusual traffic against our iBistro server causing the slowdown. The root cause (except high traffic) is unknown. It might be an automated script querying the server. However, our defenses are tight and although it was annoying to have the slowdown in service, the event had no lasting effects.

DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that several people have asked about the procedure for adding or modifying address fields in the Addresses tab of a patron’s record? When you open the Modify User wizard (or the User Registration wizard) in WorkFlows and select the Addresses tab, you’ll see that there’s a set of three Helper buttons located within the Addresses window itself - just above the first address field. If you float your cursor over each button, you’ll find that they’re labeled “Insert Row After”, “Insert Row Before”, and “Delete Row”, respectively. These three buttons are used to add, delete, or revise the fields found in the Addresses tab of a patron record.

For example, if you’d like to add a CARE/OF field immediately above the STREET field, place your cursor in the STREET field and click the “Insert Row Before” helper. A blank field will immediately be added to the record just above STREET and you can use the dropdown arrow to show the list of possible field labels. Select CARE/OF from the list and you can now add data to that field (perhaps the name of a parent on a child’s library card).

To delete the existing (duplicate) CARE/OF field from this record, the recommended procedure is to place your cursor in the second iteration of that field and click the “Delete Row” helper. The entire field will be removed from the Addresses block. The Insert Row After helper works just like Insert Row Before, but the new field is added below the starting point.

If you want more details about this procedure, there’s a document on the CCS web page called How to Add Address Fields in Java Patron Records that provides an illustrated guided to this operation. It’s found on the Sirsi Resource Page, under the Documented Procedures column. – Ken Victorson
