FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
Network Appliance Upgrade Reminder:
We are still waiting on hardware from Dell to complete this mandatory upgrade. Once the package has arrived, we will send out a mailing to notify you as to the date & time the upgrade will occur. We have been informed that the upgrade has to be completed before Jan 1, 2014, so we will not be able to honor the request from the Maintenance Coordinators meeting to do this after the holidays; we did note at the time that we might not be able to wait. We just need to upload and reboot the appliance to the new firmware. An email will be sent out when we are back online, and the system page will be updated as well (http://ccslib.org/SysStatus.php) .
For more information on this upgrade, please follow this link: http://www.sonicwall.com/us/en/20287.html?elq=68e8758a5f6b44cb8947ff1c34046246&elqCampaignId=1848
For Those Who Login as XXXCIRC:
You may have noticed that the ‘Add Item’ wizard has been removed from the ‘Item’ wizard group in the Circ Toolbar. It simply is not needed there. Non-Technical Services staff should use the ‘Add Brief Title’ wizard to add brief title and item information when necessary. The procedure to add brief title and item information is documented in the ILL Wiki.
NEW ADDITION:
Congratulations to CCS IT Systems Manager Jonathan Padilla and his wife on the birth of their daughter Malina Reneleigh Padilla. 8.6 ibs, 20 inches long, born on 12/13/13 @ 11:13 a.m.
NO CCS NEWS NEXT WEEK:

FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
Network Appliance Upgrade Reminder:
On Sunday morning, December 15th, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., we will need to perform a mandatory firewall firmware upgrade from Dell that incorporates the higher strength encryption provided by the 2048-bit security standard. For more information, please follow this link (http://www.sonicwall.com/us/en/20287.html?elq=68e8758a5f6b44cb8947ff1c34046246&elqCampaignId=1848)
This mandatory upgrade has come to us with VERY short notice.
We currently utilize industry standard 1024-bit certificates. However, as of January 1, 2014, to comply with Certification Authority/Browser forum requirements (based on NIST Special Publication 800-131A), all web browsers and Certification Authorities (CAs) will no longer sell or support 1024-bit RSA certificates. We have everything in place. We just need to upload and reboot the appliance to the new firmware. An email will be sent out when we are back online, later that morning, and the system page will be updated as well (http://ccslib.org/SysStatus.php) .
Away from the office:Staff members will be away from the office starting next week, through the end of the year. Once again please make sure you use the Wonder Desk if you need something from the Computer Room so staff can track things, instead of sending email directly to a staff member.
Jonathan will be away 12/13 returning on 12/26.
Frank will be away 12/16 and returning on 12/23
Bob will be away starting on 12/23, returning on 12/30
Jim will be away on 12/26.
CCS MEETINGS NEXT WEEK:
Tues., 12/17, 9:30, Prospect Heights: Maintenance Coordinators
Wed., 12/18, 9:30, Roger Anderson’s house: SCRAP

FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
SIP Port Requests:
A couple of libraries recently have requested SIP ports through emails to individuals. Please make sure to fill out a Help Desk ticket so the Computer Room can track and schedule your SIP port that way, instead of via individual email. This is the only way we can track them through the office. This way in case a staff member is out of the office, another staff member can follow up or give an answer about the status of the project. It usually takes about 6 weeks for the process to complete. This is better tracking for the library, and better communication between CCS and Sirsi. Thanks.
Director’s Station:
Jim has recommended using the developer tools to change the browser emulation to IE7 when using more recent versions for dealing with Director’s Station issues in the past, but a recent post to a listserv has some very simple instructions for using compatibility view to do the same thing, and you only have to do it once! Jim tried it & it works… Here the steps:
1. Open IE & go to Director's Station.
2. Go to Tools >> Compatibility View settings (press Alt if Tools is not visible).
3. Next you need to add “64.107.155.145” to the list of websites using compatibility view by clicking Add then close.
4. Director’s Station should start working immediately after this change and if it doesn’t please let us know by creating a Help Desk ticket.
Texting Status:
As of today we have our 3 original test libraries testing with their staff, and some have gone live with their patrons. When we first went live with Wilmette we ran into a few problems, mainly due to other reports and notices that played a role with sending out Text Notices for Holds. The other issue was that when we first tested, we were on the Test Server and just testing out the basic texting features. Once we went live on the Production Server, things became a little more challenging. The second and third testing libraries came on board with less problems as first encountered. Right now we are having minor issues with notices (hard copy vs text) at Crystal Lake but that should be worked out. The Computer Room has received 3 requests to have libraries come on board with texting. We are hoping to open it up in late January or early February. One thing to remember is that the texting feature is only to send out a text to a patron for an “Available Hold” or “Manual Message” at this time. We are hoping to get the other texting features available down the road, once a few things are worked on, and possibly a release or two later.
Holiday Lunch:
Tuesday we will hold our annual staff holiday lunch, so we will not have anyone at our main number. If you need to contact us, please just dial the Computer Room and you will be connected to someone.
AUTHORITIES NEWS:
Two files from Marcive were loaded into our system this week. One contained 3758 updated authority records and the other contained 384 new authority records that were needed in our database, but were not available before this time.

CCS Authorities Librarian
