CCS News

FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
iBistro progress – the new iBistro machine was installed on Monday. We continue to put it through its paces in testing. As of this writing we are finding the response time a bit slower than we want, and Sirsi will work with us on running diagnostics. We still have a goal of having the new iBistro machine released to the public shortly after Labor Day and are focusing on the evening of September 2 or 3. It is still tentative at this point, but please continue to stay tuned. We hope everything will continue to come together and we should know for sure next week. We are still doing some final testing and coordination between us, Sirsi and Akibia.
Local Notice Printing – we are ready to complete the last group of libraries’ transitions to printing their own notices. We are corresponding with each of the remaining libraries on the particulars – but as of the Wednesday delivery you will no longer be getting notices packets from CCS.
LIBRARY CLOSING:
Prospect Heights will be closed all day Friday, August 22 for an In-Service Day. The library will re-open on Saturday the 23rd.
DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that the registration deadline for the Sirsi Java training classes is September 3, 2008? There are several CCS libraries that would like to send more than one representative to a particular Sirsi training class in September, but our arrangement with Sirsi allows for only one person from each library at a particular type of training (circulation, cataloging, serials, and acquisitions - 24 possible trainees in most cases). Libraries that are already using Java won’t need this training, so there should be extra seats available for a second (alternate) person in some classes. However I can’t notify the alternates that they can attend until I’ve received all initial sign-ups. Since alternates will need time to arrange their schedules, I’m setting a deadline of September 3, 2008 for all Phase II libraries to register their first candidate. After that date, I will begin notifying alternates that seats are available for them. If you are a Phase II library that intends to send someone to Sirsi training, please make arrangements with me as soon as possible – but not later than September 3rd. If you’ve already registered one person from your library for each of the four types of training, but would like to send an additional person if space permits, send that person’s name and email address to me and I’ll add them to the alternates list. I’ll start notifying alternates of available seats on September 4th. – Ken Victorson
