FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:

CCS STAFFING:
Frank Correa, our Systems Engineer, will be out of the office for a significant amount of time due to medical reasons.  Continuity of service will not be affected as we will balance out the load with the rest of the CCS IT staff. We do need the assistance and cooperation of the libraries to accomplish this by submitting any requests that usually go to Frank, such as SIP license installation, etc., to Wonderdesk and not by emailing Frank directly or calling his line directly. This will ensure we are aware of and can expedite and track any and all requests.

PAST WEEKEND OUTAGE:
On Saturday morning, November 15, at 12:20AM the Production Server detected a problem with one of its processor boards. This event caused the server to shut itself down. Saturday morning was spent diagnosing the problem to identify the exact component(s) that needed to be replaced. At 11:00AM Oracle Field Service was contacted.  At 2:30 both the Oracle Field Engineer and replacement part arrived. The part replacement time was extended due to a firmware update.  At 5:00PM we attempted to boot the OS, but found the disk addressing had changed, preventing the boot.  By 7:00PM the system was booted and online.  Thanks to Bob and Jim for putting in extra long days, and to all for your patience and understanding.

FROM THE DATABASE MANAGER:
ENTERPRISE CHANGES:
Due to a configuration change we made that went into effect this past Monday, eResource Central eBooks & eAudiobooks are now always included in Enterprise search results that are limited by your default library, branch, or combination of those.  No more having to do two searches or system-wide searches in order to search both your physical collection and your digital collection!  ("Nearby library" search limits have not been changed at this time, under the assumption that those are typically used by people looking to visit nearby libraries to get things they cannot find locally.  Similarly, other search limits have not been changed at this time, as they seem to all be related to searching a library's physical collection.)

Copy lists now appear in Enterprise "My List" lists, showing local ownership & current status. They are the same copy lists that appear in search results lists.  These copy lists are not included when printing or e-mailing records, because this display was accomplished through a local customization, and local customizations are always bypassed by the built-in print & e-mail functions.

ITEM CATEGORY 3, 4 AND 5 REPORTS:
Item Category 4 has been added to the Purchase Alert report, so you can quickly determine a listed title's genre at a glance.

Monthly item count reports for each of the new categories have been added to the Web Reports page. Monthly & rolling annual circulation statistics reports for each category are also being created, though because the data on these categories only started being collected in October, that is as far back as the rolling annual reports can go.

WELCOME BACK TO CCS:
We are delighted that Kate Hall, who was a good contributor to Greater CCS while at Park Ridge, will be the new Director at Northbrook as of January 5.

DUE TO THANKSGIVING, THERE WILL BE NO CCS NEWS NEXT WEEK.  HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL FROM THE CCS STAFF!

CCS MEETING THE NEXT TWO WEEKS:

Wed., 12/3, 10:00, Crystal Lake: Governing Board
