CCS News

JULY 17, 2009

FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
New Router – there will be a “blip” – a short interruption in network communications – Tuesday morning between 7am and 8 am. This is so that we can install a new router from ICN.

Hold Wrapper – a conference call to solve some residual hold wrapper problems is planned for July 22 at 10am with Sirsi. We have several libraries participating (you know who you are) but if this is news to you and you want to participate, please feel free to contact Linda in the computer room.

Summer – we have been experiencing staff absences due to ALA and illness. There are some upcoming vacations that staff are planning soon. In addition to logging with the Wonderdesk, we always welcome a phone call to plan ahead for any time sensitive projects or urgent matters. We are alerting you of planned absences of more than one day on the Wonderdesk signon page so that you can tell when your favorite staffer is out of the office.

IMPORTANT SUBJECT HEADING CHANGES:

This week, over 4000 bibliographic records were changed. The major subject heading that changed was from “Family” to “Families”. This includes all the assorted subdivisions too, like “Families—Fiction”. Headings that contained the word “family” like “Computers and family” were also changed - in this case the new heading is “Computers and families”.

But “family” can still be used in certain subject headings like “Family vacations” and “Family reunions”. It’s still also used as a subject subdivision if you are discussing an individual’s family. So for example, if you need a book or other material on the family of Thomas Jefferson, then your subject heading would still be “Jefferson, Thomas, 1743-1826 --Family.”

Besides the “families” changes, the last of the Buddhist heading changes were done. Headings like “Priests, Buddhist” and “Temples, Buddhist” were changed to now “Buddhist priests” and “Buddhist temples”.

In all cases mentioned above, there are references that will guide the user to the correct term.

DIRECTOR’S STATION:
Sirsi has informed us of an upgrade to our Directors Station that should fix, for example, a missing column when extracting data to excel file. The upgrade will be installed on July 21, 2009 @ 9:30am. This will take approximately 15 to 30 minutes. Per Sirsi the upgrade will be transparent to our users. We will keep you updated when the install is completed. As usual, we will be doing our back-ups before the install, but if you experience anything different on your reports, please let us know and we will follow up on it. (Just an fyi…. our slowness issue is still our very big concern and Sirsi is aware and looking for solutions).

A complete list of features in this update follows:

We are pleased to announce the release of SwiftKnowledge v8.2.5.56. Details about this specific release can be found below.

Enhancements in v8.2.5.56
.Column Alignment: Users now have the ability to define the alignment for any column on either builder or custom reports. Options include; left, right, center, or default. The default option will align the data based on standard data type rules. The alignment option can be accessed through the grid column menus.

.Chart Axis Labels: The ability to add X and Y axis labels to charts have existed in the report xml for quite some time. We have now added Axis Label options to the chart settings form so users can set them without modifying xml directly.

.Formatting in custom variable containers: The ability to format text in a custom variable container has now been added. Options include the ability to set text color, type, font, and size. For details regarding this feature, contact your support representative.

.View Query enhancement: Previously when using the “View Query” option only the first query executed would be displayed. In builder reports it is possible to have multiple queries that make up an individual report. The View Query option will not return every query that is executed to return the displayed results.

.PDF options on scheduled reports: The report schedule form now has a tab for PDF options. This allows either a user or administrator to set the PDF options to be used on individual schedule reports. Previously any scheduled report followed the default options and had no ability for encryption and password protection.

.SwiftView title link: The SwiftView title now allows a user to click and drag a shortcut to their desktop. When accessing this shortcut the user is navigated directly to this SwiftView upon login. This allows user more control over what dashboard loads upon login.

Bugs fixed in v8.2.5.56
1. CSV column header bug: When columns where removed from a report, and the report was not saved, and a user accessed the export option for a grid, the resulting CSV file would incorrectly place blank column headers in the file. This has now been fixed and column headers should accurately reflect the columns visible in the report.

2. No Data displayed in custom report with no column map: When creating custom reports a user initially pastes a query into the report template. If the results of that query where more than 100 rows then the first 100 rows of data would not be displayed. If then the user simply saved the report and reloaded the report would work. This was caused because until a user actually saves the report through the interface no column map exists within the xml. This issue has now been resolved.

3. Missing Horizontal Scroll bar – IE8: Internet Explorer 8 was not displaying horizontal scroll bars for any grid. This has now been fixed and horizontal scroll bars will display when appropriate.

4. Dashboard selection menu with many groups: If a user belonged to many groups (more groups than would visibly display on the menu) then it was possible for the “Select SwiftView” menu to be disabled. In these cases resizing the browser would allow a user to work around this problem. This issue has been resolved and the list will display with scroll bars where appropriate regardless of how long it is.

5. Fit to width PDF: When selecting the “Fit to width” option on a PDF document the last 3+ column names were lost. They have now been found and return to the column header where they belong.

6. PDF alignment: When building reports that removed levels from a hierarchy on rows, it was possible for the PDF printout to miss align the data and the column headers. This has now been fixed and the column headers align correctly with the data.

7. Chart color duplication: When using the option to filter columns from a chart and the swap axis chart option at the same time it was possible to encounter a duplication of colors in the chart. This has now been fixed and no duplication of chart colors should occur.

8. User rights combinations: There were multiple rights that when applied in certain combinations where not working as expected. We believe all issues with rights have now been addressed and they are working as expected.

9. Move and hide columns with load points: Attempting to move or hide columns on any report with more than 100 rows caused a client side error. This has now been fixed and moving columns works as expected
