CHRIS’ S CORNER:
Today marks my 1 month milestone. I’ve been able to meet with 14 of the 24 member libraries so far. The remaining 10 are scheduled, and I look forward to hearing from you in the course of the next couple weeks.
One theme that has come up almost everywhere is the CCS plan to formally look at the library technology marketplace in 2016. Because I worked for two ILS vendors over the past 15 years, it is clear to me that there are benefits and tradeoffs to any system choice. I often think of them as variations of apples, e.g. the braeburn may be good for apple crisp, but the golden delicious is great to slice and eat. The key is to know what our priorities are. What are our must-haves? Where can we make compromises? What new functionality would we like to incorporate?
Developing these lists can take some time, so it’s important to start thinking about these things now. It may also involve a change of approach to analyze your every move in order to notice what you take for granted. As you go about your daily work what are some functions that work really well and very easily for you? Where do you find yourself creating workarounds? What do patrons love and dislike? Feel free to pass along your thoughts and ideas. I’d be interested to know what you’re experiencing. There might even be a solution in our current platform. cholly@ccs.nsls.lib.il.us

The ID “supertech” that was grandfathered into the new CCS website has been removed, as it was originally meant for CCS internal use and had Administrator rights on the new website. Going forward, please use the CCSl... login instead. (Library Administrators should use their existing login. It was emailed again on May 13; if you need it, please contact the Computer Room staff.)
