AUGUST 12, 2011

FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
Disk Array Amber Light
The production server disk array has been fixed. After a network outage a week ago Monday, and 3 visits from the Sun tech, the problem has been resolved. The main issue was the diagnostic software tool not working with the array. The part was swapped out and everything was restored. As always, we try to keep our libraries aware of what is going on but sometimes we have no control over when a tech can arrive on premises to fix or swap out parts. We are sorry for the inconvenience. This needed to be fixed to avoid another outage.

New Firewall Received
This week we received our new Sonicwall Firewall. In order to copy and transfer the current configuration, the PRO 6040 software needs to be updated. The problem is the unit will have to be booted twice to make sure it takes the software update before the new E5500 can be brought up and configured with the 6040’s rules. This may mean the firewall and access to the CCS network will be down for approximately three to four minute intervals in order to load the new firmware and update the unit with the changes. We will try to do this as early in the morning as we can, possibly before 7:00 A.M. We will send an e-mail to communicate when this will happen. We are hoping to do the swap in a few days, late August, early September time frame and we don’t expect “major” down time.

CCSLIB.ORG Lists
The Admin-l, MaintCoord-l and Shelp-l lists have been copied over to our offsite e-mail account in case we ever need to contact the CCS library staff in case of a power failure or emergency. The email will be from ccssupport@ccslib.org
and will only be used when we cannot access our regular email server (ccs.nsls.lib.il.us). In order to keep communication flowing in the possibility of network failure, please access the link found in the www.ccslib.org web site under Special Instructions>CCS Down.

BiblioCommons
On Sunday, August 14 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. EST, BiblioCommons will be performing database upgrades. These upgrades are part of ongoing maintenance to allow for future growth and to improve reliability.

During the maintenance window, we expect the application to be up and search to work, but login and account access will be unavailable.

BookMyne
Some libraries are now ramping up to deploy BookMyne, in so much that they are doing due diligence with some in-house testing. To date we have Northbrook and Park Ridge who have each made their interface visible. If you’d like to view the CCS catalog through BookMyne, you should point the app to either one of those libraries. BookMyne’s communication with the server requires a path to IP64.107.155.203 on PORT8443. If you can’t connect, your local security devices may be blocking that connection, in which case your IT staff will need to get involved.
