CCS News

JUNE 11, 2010

There isn’t much to report this week. Linda is gone, Virginia is waiting till next week to summarize the current Marcive authorities update, we seem to be adjusting to the changes in hold range (thanks!), we’re making progress with EDI and holds against On-Order items... so we’ll just keep this one short.

OUR BEST RETIREMENT WISHES to Sandra Norlin, who will retire from the helm at Des Plaines in September. Sandra was the President of CCS when a hacker put a root kit and a hard shutdown on us in summer of 2005, and her support and leadership were superb. (It was also early in Linda Zaleski’s tenure; thankfully she didn’t run screaming, and the whole Computer Room staff rose to great heights of commitment and distinction.) Those are some big shoes... we hope they’ll be walking a long, happy, healthy and glorious path during the next chapters.

MCHENRY PLANS TO REOPEN JUNE 14: McHenry is planning to reopen after their renovation on Monday, June 14. We will return hold fulfillment for them to normal as of Tuesday, June 15.

WORKFLOWS HOLDS DEFAULT SETTINGS REMINDER: As reiterated by Executive Committee June 9, please set your Preferences for placing holds in Workflows to Title/Group. If your group can’t fill a hold, you’ll be informed by the software; in that case just change the range to System. System holds may still be used if necessary.

HOLD FLIP SCRIPT: We are working with Sirsi toward a script to flip System holds placed before June 2 to Group if they can be filled locally. We are also trying to find ways to exclude Book Club Holds if possible. More news should follow in the next week.
