FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
iBistro – Computer Room staff continue to work very hard towards getting the faster new iBistro machine up and running. We are planning to switch to the new machine between 9:15pm the evening of Wednesday September 3 and the following morning. The switch should be complete by the time you come back to the library in the morning.

This project has really been one where Murphy’s Law has been at work. We still need to solve some response time issues and receive results from the security check before we can complete the switch. Our date is tentative, so if the machine is not ready September 3 we will cancel and reschedule, but if the machine checks out in the next few days as okay and the problems are solved, then we will make the switch as scheduled. Naturally, we will keep you posted on any changes and of our progress.

What client ?? - When reporting through Wonderdesk, it is important that you let us know if you are requiring a resolution to a Java client issue of a C client issue. We want to make sure we are working on the right client when helping you.

Local Notice Printing
– all libraries are now printing their own reports and notices!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AUTHORITIES UPDATE:
CCS sent 2766 bibliographic records to Marcive on Wednesday, Aug. 27th for Overnight Authorities Processing. The records have been processed and were reloaded into our system. Of the 2766 bibliographic records, Marcive returned 933 updated bibliographic records. Marcive also sent us 1228 new authority records. CCS will be sending groups of records for processing each month, so that our database will be kept up to date as much as possible. Marcive also updates each month some of the authority records that are in our local authority file (this month they updated over 3200 of them).

DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know it’s possible to print a list of titles found with an Item Search in Java, much as you can in the C client? Most of us occasionally need to print the results from a WorkFlows Item Search & Display search and in the C client that’s easily done (click the print button when the results display). You can also print search results lists in Java WorkFlows, but there are a couple of extra steps required to do it.

1. Open the Item Search & Display wizard in Java and enter your search string. When the titles display in the Results Pane of the search window, you must click two Helper buttons at the top of the window. The first one looks like a set of eyeglasses and binoculars and is called “Show/Hide Search Pane” and the second (looks like just a pair of glasses) will “Show/Hide Viewer”. Clicking these two helpers will remove the top and bottom segments of the window and leave only the results pane (with the list of retrieved items) visible on the screen.

2. On the Menu Bar, select Print Screen from the dropdown list under the File menu and an HTML document containing the list of items found in the search will appear.

3. Use the standard MS Windows command to print the document on your laser
printer.

Note: In both Java and the C client you can only print the list of results that are actually visible on the screen (about 25 items). If your search produces a larger number of results, you’ll have to repeat the process, scrolling through 25 items at a time until you have the entire list printed. – Ken Victorson
