FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
Indexes – we are ramping up to rebuild the indexes in the next few weeks. The catalogers are getting fields ready to index. Please stay tuned for more news on re-indexing.
BookMyne Plus – in our testing of BookMyne Plus we have found success with the iPhone. SirsiDynix tells us it does not work with iPad. We have not been successful with Android devices but are still working on this with SirsiDynix.
RDA – We have successfully tested RDA on the test server. Our implementation on the production server was not exactly what we had experienced on the test server – so we are working with SirsiDynix on the problem.
AUTHORITIES NEWS:
A number of files from Marcive were loaded into our system recently. One contained 205 new authority records that were needed in our database, but were not available before this time. The other large file of 6671 updated authority records was split into smaller files, and they were loaded over a number of days, so as to not overload the system. The large amount of updated authority records can be attributed to the Library of Congress and other libraries (CCS included!) in making headings compliant with RDA (the new cataloging rules that more and more bibliographic & authority records are using).

FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
Status of projects – At the moment we are working on a variety of projects. Books by Mail, Overdue notifications via SVA, testing of Texting, BookMyne Plus and work related to RDA are all in various stages of progress. We hope to rebuild indexes soon (perhaps in the next few weeks) so please stay tuned for our announcement on this. Naturally, we will keep you posted as these tests come to fruition and the features are ready for use at the libraries.
And that’s it for this week (plus the meeting calendar below)...
CCS MEETINGS NEXT WEEK:
Wed., 1/23, 10:00, Glenview: Governing Board Annual and Regular Meeting
Thur., 1/24, 9:30-11:30, RAILS-Wheeling: Meet And Greet for new RAILS Director Dee Brennan (not strictly a CCS meeting, but they re-scheduled it for our convenience, so they get a free plug here!)

FROM THE COMPUTER ROOM:
Housecleaning and automatic patron purges - Since all libraries are purging inactive patrons now on a monthly basis, it is a good time to review the rules by which patrons are cleaned from the database. Most libraries use three years - but some may use a different parameter. So assuming three years:
1. Any patron who has not been active for three years will be purged.
2. But, any patron with inactivity of three years with bills or overdue fines will not be purged from the database.
3. Last activity date is the last checkout date or last time the patron was authenticated using SIP.
AUTHORITIES NEWS:
Two files from Marcive were loaded into our system recently. One contained 4150 updated authority records and the other contained 322 new authority records that were needed in our database, but were not available before this time.
